We open with the Masters: Van Gogh, Hokusai, Vermeer, Seurat, Monet, Degas. Their museums set the pictures free, and we put their names on the plaque anyway. The living artists and photographers who join after launch get something the masters never did: a share of every sale.
Artists keep their rights. Licences are non-exclusive, and the maker's name is on the brass plaque every time someone finishes their picture.

What's the difference between monthly pictures and artist packs?
Monthly pictures are included with Pieceling and arrive every month. Artist packs are collections of one maker's work, bought separately; half of what we receive from each pack goes to the artist.
How do artists get paid?
Half of what we receive from every artist pack goes to its artist. If you buy Pieceling with an artist's code, you get £3 off and £5 goes to them.
Where do the pictures come from?
At launch: public-domain works from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Art Institute of Chicago, all released by those museums under open access (CC0); public-domain photochrom prints and 1930s WPA posters from the Library of Congress; and a few public-domain scans (paintings in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna and the Musée d'Orsay, Paris, and a 1907 illustrated book) via Wikimedia Commons. Every picture is credited on its plaque. After launch, from living artists and photographers under licence, who are paid a share of every sale.
What can I play without paying?
Three of the Masters, at every size and every cut, so you can see what Pieceling is like. Start the free trial and all the Masters open for the week. Your first payment keeps them for good and opens every other collection (Scotland, Vintage, Kids and the rest); cancel before it and you are back to the free three.
What happens if I cancel Annual?
Nothing you have goes away. Every monthly picture that arrived while you were paying, and every artist pack you bought, stays yours to play on iPad and Mac. What stops is the new set of pictures each month. You can still buy artist packs. If you cancel during the free trial, before any payment, you go back to the three free Masters. Monthly pictures need a paid month. Artist packs can be bought by anyone, whether or not they subscribe.
Do I need an account?
No. Your progress syncs through your own iCloud.
Is there AI-generated art?
No. Every picture in Pieceling was made by a person.
